Staff Nurse

Job Title: Staff Nurse

Department: Nursing

Division: Clinical Operations

FLSA Class: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Site Charge Nurse

Supervises: N/A

Position Summary 

This individual assures that services are administered utilizing professional standards with a strong focus on quality, timely care and exceptional customer service under the direction of the medical provider. Assist in the maintenance of an environment conductive to the health, training, and well-being of peers and patients. This individual may have to float to sites as needed at the direction of the Department Head or designee.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for providing vital signs, interviewing the patient/family, and charting.
  • Collaborates with health care providers in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the needs of the patients and peers
  • Maintains positive effective communication with providers, supervisors, peers, and subordinates.
  • Oversees the patient triage process by Certified Nursing Assistants/Phlebotomist and medical Assistants.
  • Ensures Provider’s orders are directed to the various appropriate departments
  • Knowledgeable / Assist providers as requested with exams, procedures, removal of sutures, etc.
  • Completes authorizations and referrals for patients in a timely manner
  • Knowledgeable in walk-in triage and interventions regarding patients age under the leadership of the Charge Nurse
  • Knowledgeable regarding all medical forms (PE, work excuses, proof of pregnancy, etc)
  • Knowledgeable regarding specific reports and logs well as location of reports and logs.
  • Knowledgeable / Administers ordered immunizations and other medications
  • Documents/Keeps accurate records regarding missed appointments by patients and follows up with patients as appropriate.
  • Able to triage patients via phone and correctly document in the patients chart
  • Able to perform EKGs and Triage in a timely manner
  • Meets all lab requirements and knowledgeable regarding the process procedure including phlebotomy skills.
  • Knowledgeable and demonstrates the ability to perform all CLIA Waived Test.
  • Meets monthly with subordinate staff to identify and resolve issues and promote good communication and dissemination of information.
  • Maintains an open line of communication with the Supervisor of Nursing Operations informing of the status of centers and staff.
  • Responsible for ensuring proper training is conducted, including: Orientation, skills/competency training, new equipment training, continuing education, standard operating procedures, policies and documentation within the electronic health record.
  • Ability to ensure smooth patient flow at all times
  • Inventory and Stock Exam Rooms Daily.
  • Knowledgeable regarding proper instrument cleaning, packing, and handling.
  • Reviews and prepares medical records for the patient visit two days in advance.
  • Assists with an annual review of departmental policies, job descriptions, staff plan, and departmental budget.
  • Participates in interdepartmental operations meetings as assigned.
  • Functions as a resource to staff regarding departmental and agency policies.
  • Participates in Quality Improvement activities.
  • Assists with administrative tasks as necessary.
  • Participates in community functions as appropriate and promotes the concept of “Patient’s First” is essential. .
  • Supports the goals and mission of MCRHS, Inc.
  • Adheres to the safety policies and procedures of MCRHS, Inc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned from time to time.

Requirements

  • Licensed LPN/ RN in good standing with the Florida Board of Nursing
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in professional nursing experience
  • Strong, in-depth knowledge of leadership principles and practices, including: Nursing operations, patient flow, human resources management, asset management, inform, regulatory compliance, customer service, and evidence-based patient care. 
  • Current CPR certification
  • Florida State driver’s license

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to see, speak, actively listen, walk, stand, sit, climb, stoop, push, pull, reach, kneel, crouch, crawl, drive, write and type. The employee will continuously be required to see, speak, actively listen, walk, sit, stand, write and type for extended periods of time.
  •  The employee will frequently be required to carry or lift objects weighing up to 10 lbs, push, pull, reach, bend, stoop and drive. The employee will occasionally be required to lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 25 lbs, climb, kneel, crouch, or crawl. 
  • Employee will spend 95% of time in climate-controlled, well-lite, and smoke-free workspaces. This position has a Category 1 risk of exposure to infectious disease; thus, the employee will receive training in proper hand washing techniques, Universal Precautions, and will have access to personal protective equipment in the event there is a potential for direct exposure. The employee is subject to frequent interruptions, noise, and odors. 
  • Employee is not limited to the activities described above and this job description may be amended by management as deemed necessary.
